Just occasionally I found myself leaving my indicator on and it confusing other motorists ... and nearly causing an accident.
I had already tried an 'add on' buzzer but ditched that idea - it really wasn't practical. The next generation are probably better.
Making up the indicators was a bit fiddly - say about 20mins total.
Fitting them was 1 hour max .... and that's with numerous cups of tea and a chat with the neighbours!!
Was it worth it? Yep, even though I still very occasionally leave my indicators on. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
So, off to Maplins with my shopping list.
2 x12v subminiture green bulbs (Item PG79)
Heatshrink 1 metre (Item BF88)
10m of 0.2mm black wire (Item BL00) (Plenty of spare!!)
10m of 0.2mm green wire (Item BL03) (And plenty more spare!!)
Total cost including VAT was £3.55.
I made up the extensions for each side by using about 20 inches of green and 20 inches of black wire.
Solder them to the connectors on the minibulb - any side ... any colour. Sleeve it with about 10 inches of heatshrink with the
heatshrink just covering the bottom of the bulb. (See photo below)
Fitting it.
Disconnect the earth at the battery. (10 spanner)
Check that the made up leads work by connecting them across the battery.
On each side of the bike do the following:
Remove horizontal trim panel inside fairing (4 hex and 2 philips headed pop screws)
Remove mirror (2 x 10)
Remove mirror bracket (2 x 6 hex)
Tape bulb roughly in place at the inside top right and left of the fairing.
Tease out existing bullet connectors for indicators. (Black and Green for right, black and brown for left).
Re-connect bullet connectors having fed in a stripped end of the 0.2mm black and green cable from each mini bulb.
Tuck away cables behind mirror bracket and use gaffa tape to finally locate minibulb at top of fairing .... see picture below.
It may look a bit of a bodge but you really hardly see either the gaffa tape of the heatshrink.
