Targa SG800

For a while I'd been a bit hacked off with only one lot of information displayed on the little LCD panel on the clocks.

Ideally I wanted to see trip distance and time.

During discussion on the FOC-U site regarding mirrors I ended up exchanging e-mails with fazer owner Antti in Finland.

In one of his pix I noticed he'd got a Targa system of some sort fitted.

I eventually found one in the Sound Distribution catalogue though I notice

it is not in their latest catalogue. With p and p it came to £27.95.

You can check out what the Targa looks like at the Sigma site. (Click on Cycle Computer at bottom left of page)

Antti pointed me in the direction of Deiter Geiger's site where there was a template for fitting the Targa to the Fazer.

Seems as though Dieter Geiger's site has been updated since I last visited ..... when I find the template I'll put a new link in.

This link takes you to the site but where the templates gone I really don't know.

(It fits to the left hand mounting bolt behind the speedo).

With a friend we made up the bracket (though didn't bother drilling it out as per the template).

We then painted it black and fitted the bracket. The piccy below shows the Targa fitted but of course

it wasn't fitted until we'd done the magnet on the wheel and the sensor on the front forks.

Fitting the pick up and magnet took a bit of thought.

The Targa came with a spoke magnet and a 'cadence' magnet (see Sigma site).

We 'Araldited the 'cadence' magnet (about 1cm x 1cm square) to one of the 'spokes' on the front wheel.

We held it in place with gaffa tape for a while to let the Araldite set. Sorry I don't have a pic without the gaffa tape!!

We then made up a small bracket to hold the reed relay type sensor that we fixed to the front mudguard bolt as can

be seen in the picture above. We drilled four small holes in the vertical part of the bracket and tie wrapped the

sensor to it through these holes. It was then just a case of tucking the cable neatly away and making sure there

was a 'loop' in between the forks to allow for full left and right lock. We ran it round the back of the clocks

and then fitted the Targa mounting bracket to the home made bracket. Slotted in the Targa and off you go.

Well, off you go after you've set the wheelsize. Mine is set to 1116 and pretty much matches the trip counter on the Fazer.

The speedo on the Targa shows about 10% down on the Fazer. i.e. Fazer = 100, Targa = 90.

Guess it took about 3 hours from start to finish.
